On November 30th we volunteered at the Saint Louis Area foodbank. We helped with packaging food and added piece of paper that had a recipe and a word search on it. These boxes are going to the senior citizens in need. We helped provide 8,714 meals for the senior citizens. Then after our hard work we went on a tour. On the tour we went to the freezer and it was 15 below 0 there! After that we went back to school and ate lunch.
Our Time at the Food Bank

When we were at the food bank our class and another class packaged over 300 boxes of food. All of that food weighed 10,675 pounds. Both classes helped 8,714 hungry seniors. Everyone had a different job to do. One of the jobs was flattening boxes and smashing them in a smashing machine. Another job was taping the boxes with food in them with a taping tool. The one and only job was putting the food in the boxes, First you put in a big bag of oats. Next you put in the veggies. After that you put in the meat. Lastly you put in the powdered milk. Then we took a tour. We helped 8,714 hungry seniors.

I really had a great time at the St. Louis Food Bank. I worked behind the box area. Me and a couple of my friends called it “Hurricane Box”. When the other groups took out all of the food from the boxes, they threw it back to me and some of the other kids who worked with me, broke down the boxes. When we started, there were very few boxes. But in the last hour it was so fast that we could not keep up! Then there was a machine that compressed the boxes together. Then we went on a tour of the food bank. We got to see the food that people donated to the food bank. Then we went to the fridge. The fridge was 41 degrees fahrenheit. Then we went to the freezer, (for five seconds). The freezer was at a cold -2 degrees. It was a little hard to breathe. Then they showed us that they had a special freezer suit. It is a really hard job. And we could feed 2,178.5 groups of four, in only a two hour session! I am proud to say that I helped provide 8,714 meals for elders!

We went to the food bank to make a senior box. It was a box that contained food for the seniors that can’t afford the food they need. That means they are in poverty. We processed 384 boxes and 10,675 pounds. We helped provide meals for 8,714 people. We worked for 3 hours and when we came back, we were starving. Luckily, we went straight to lunch.
How We Packed the Food at the Food Bank
By:Raheem
Today we went to the food bank and this is how I packed the boxes. First I got a box and unwrapped the crackers. Next I put the boxes of crackers in the box. I had to make them fit. Then I taped the box together. Finally I put two stickers on the box and there was a box ready for a senior. That was how I packed the boxes at the food bank.

We packed Senior boxes for grandma's and grandpa’s. We processed 384 cases and 10,675 pounds. If you go to the food bank you would be Sore if you go on a field trip. If you go to the food bank you’re going to need to eat before you go there because it makes you hungry looking at all the food at the food bank. If you go you will feel thanked that you helped other people. We helped provide 8,714 meals for people who can’t stretch their budget for food. I can’t believe that we were there for 3 hours 20 minutes. My favorite was going into the freezer! We enjoyed going to the food bank and helping people.
