OUR SKYPE WITH THE JOIDES RESOLUTION
TODAY WE GOT TO SKYPE WITH THE J.D. WE TALKED WITH LEE. LEE SAID THAT THEY SAW WHALES, AND PENGUINS ON THEIR 2 MONTH TRIP. LEE SHOWED US THE PART ON THE SHIP WHERE THEY DRILL UNDER THE OCEAN FLOOR FOR FOSSILS, ROCKS, AND MUD. THEY ARE REALLY BUSY ON THE J.D. THEY WORK 12 HOURS A DAY! IT WAS REALLY FUN SKYPING WITH THE J.D!
Our class skyped with the JOIDES Resolution. We met Linda, Susan, Lee, and Jonathan. Three were scientists. They like to find penguins and whales in their free time. Their expedition was near southern Chile and the Antarctic Peninsula. They have 12 hour shifts. Half of the people start their shifts at midnight to the noon and the other half people noon to midnight.
The JOIDES RESOLUTION By Conner, Dominick and Maxwell
We got to skype with a scientist on The JOIDES RESOLUTION. The JOIDES RESOLUTION collects mud and rocks to learn about our past and how our future might be. We got to see the lab were they studied rocks and mud and we got to see some fossils. The oldest fossil is 15 million years old.She showed us pictures of stuff that she saw on the boat. There are penguins that sometimes swim around there boat.It is 143 meters long. The DERRICK that holds the pipe is 62 meters above the sea.
The Joides Resolution!
Today we skyped with the Joides Resolution! We talked with Lee. She showed us pictures of whales, penguins, the ship, and more! We talked with a scientists. They pull up core from the ocean floor. They also found rocks from the ocean floor. Right now they are in Antarctica. They have been on the Joides Resolution for 7 weeks and 50 days. The oldest fossil is 15 million years old! It was so cool!
Today we skyped Lee from the JOIDES resolution. The joides resolution is a big boat full of scientists. They look for rocks to see how old the rocks and dirt are. Every time they drill down below the ocean they get core. They also look through a microscope and they see the rocks and research them. The microscope has a sticker of Groot from the guardians of the galaxy. They use the sticker to identify which microscope it is.
They only work 12 hours a day and they take breaks. They can have ice cream whenever they want. They also have four meals per day. When they take breaks they go to the cafeteria and have tea, milk, water, hot chocolate and cookies. Their rooms also have bunk beds.
