All Aboard the JR By: Owen & Zach
Today we skyped with a water chemist on the JOIDES Resolution. The person we were skyping with showed us around the JR. (It was really cool!) They are on a expedition near Australia. They started in September. Then we asked questions about the JR. Here are a few questions that we asked: We asked how wide was the ship? The JR is 12 school buses wide! And we asked, “How many missions has the JR gone on?” They answered, “We have gone on 17 missions.”. After a lot of questions, the chemist introduced and told us what she liked. After another bunch of questions, the chemist had to get to work, So we said good bye. It was really fun to meet a real scientist on the JR!

They showed us the hydraulic press part at the lab and the process of getting the core. First they put down the drill. Next they put down a straw into a drill piece of the drill. Finally they pull out the drill after the straw. Then they bring the core to the lab to inspect. The JR has been on about 17 missions. In conclusion the Zoom meeting was super fun!
