The St. Louis Food Bank by Max

Today our class went to the St. louis food bank. Our class in a matter of 2 hours packed 624 packages of food for elderly citizens in 23 counties in St. louis and illinois.  1 person would be fed for 5.37 years! We packed 7,200 pounds or 3.60 tons of food. We made 5,878 meals for the hungry.

I did 3 jobs at the food bank.  My first job was to set 2 small milk cartons in a box with 2 boxes Toasty-O's cereal, then I would push the box the line to the next station.  My second job was to stamp empty boxes and toss them in large pile with boxes ready to be filled with food. My third job was to tear boxes apart and sort them, we took empty food packaging and tore them and put them in boxes.

I had a great field trip today at the ST.LOUIS Food bank. I had multiple jobs. I was ripping boxes and put them in a big cart. I was putting OJ in boxes. After I put OJ in boxes and when the boxes were empty I threw them over to the ripping boxes.

My first trip to the food bank was great. I got to pack boxes of food. I got to put stickers on boxes. I got the stamp boxes. I get to put apple juice in the boxes. I got to take apart the boxes that had the food in them. I got to put rice in the boxes. Most of the things that I did was with boxes. We got to pack 5,878 meals.  That's 3.6 tons of food! It was a lot of work but we got it done in 2 hours.  I didn't even know there was free food for people in need in the city.

Today I went to the St. Louis Food Bank. I was very surprised when they said I was putting stickers on the boxes! Only two people got to do it! I very much enjoyed that job. We had to put the stickers on the top right corner of the box. We did senior boxes. That is were we pack up boxes of food for senior centers. We packed 624 senior boxes in a matter of two hours! We processed 7,200 pounds and 3.60 tons! That's enough to feed a person for 5.37 years! After putting stickers on the boxes I switched with Maya and packed canned green beans. That was very fun to. I packed two green bean cans per box. That's 1248 cans of green beans in all! So in conclusion,it was a very fun field trip.
