HAVE A LOOK INSIDE! Each year Mrs. Avnor's classroom does The Culture Box Exchange. We send in little artifacts from where we are and they send in artifacts from where they are too. This year they sent in artifacts from Alaska. We got so many cool things from them! They sent raw goods like salmon, and even a tire! They brought in their favorite books and a hockey puck. This was an amazing social studies experiment. By Joe M. The first thing we got was a boot that they use to track through the snow. The second thing we got was one tire that they use for their bikes when it is snowy. The tire has studs on it to create friction. The third thing we got was a book that talks about their city. The fourth thing was a shirt that had a picture of their school mascot. The fifth thing was mountain goat wool. It had a lot of things in the wool. What was cool about the starfish was that the kids found them a lot when they went to the beach. The seventh thing is a rock that the kids painted. They paint the rocks and then sell them. The eighth thing was their state flag. The ninth thing was an Alaskan abc book. It has mostly all plants and animals in Alaska. The tenth thing was Native American art work on a postcard from a radio station. Haines, Alaska has only has 1 radio station. The eleventh thing they sent us was a postcard that had a picture of their town, Haines. The twelfth thing is some cranberry jam. They have a lot of berries in Alaska. The thirteenth thing they sent us was a jar of salmon, It is one of the most popular foods there. The fourteenth thing that they sent us was the smoked salmon. The last thing they sent us was a hockey puck. It was a puck from their community. They have a community hockey rink. The culture box was a lot of fun and we hope you had fun reading this.
