When you play soccer you need a goalie, defenders, midfielders and forwards. The coach is someone who tells you what to do. When you play soccer you need to wear proper uniforms. You need cleets, long socks, shinguards, a jersey, and shorts. You can do many things with the ball using your feet like: shuffles, chops, rolling-spin-turns, toe-touches and in-betweens. You can hit the ball using your head which is called heading the ball. Sometimes you may get yellow or red cards. A referee makes that decision. A referee also makes calls on penalty kicks, offsides or out of bounds. Soccer is fun to watch.
Did you know that a soccer field is called a pitch?
FACTS
Soccer was “born’’ in the Far East about 2,000 years ago. Some 6000 years later a similar sport called kemari developed in Japan. The ancient Greeks and Romans were next to discover soccer. By the 1860’s the term “soccer’’ was being used as “football’’ to describe the sport. Today the game is called “soccer’’ in the United States and Canada and “football’’ everywhere else in the the world. American football is an entirely different sport. I really like soccer soccer, and it’s fun to learn about.
