Today we did a skype with Eric Kelly. He showed us what life is like being a musher. We saw all of his dogs. To be a dog sledding dog you need to be a husky. He cooked some water from freezing cold to editable temperature. And he made some kibble to feed his dogs. Did you know that there is a sleeping bag for mushers that is $436 dollars USD? (adding taxes,) I hope you learned something from this article, have a great day! By Joe M. We skyped with Eric. He has ran races but not the Iditarod. It was my first skype so I didn’t know what to expect but it was very fun. I learned a lot about the Iditarod and other things. Eric has thirty seven dogs, that is a lot of dogs.He has a sled that you can sit down on. That is some of the things I learned. By Makenna Today we had a Skype with a musher named Eric Kelly. Here are some facts that we learned. He raises 37 dogs outside of his house. The longest race he’s been in was 300 miles. He told us there are 3 types of sleds, wooden sled, racing sled and sitting sled. His best race he got 2nd place. He was inspired by his friend to be a musher. That is some of the facts that we learned from him. By Braden and Owen Today we skyped with one of our Art teachers friend named Eric. Next we learned a lot about everything that you need for dog sledding. Here are some facts about his dog and more. First he has 37 dogs at is dog yard. Next we learned about the dog sledding sleeping bag. It has a head hole that you put your head through and two arm holes and it also has a big hole at the bottom so your feet can hang out. You can sleep with your boots on and if your dog needs something you can hop right up and you don’t have to get out of the sleeping bag. It is about $400 and it was also made by Jeff King. Then they don’t take water with them. The dogs have to wear booties. There are 3 kinds of sleds they use and they use a 4 wheeler when there is no snow. He was inspired by his friend that he used to work with and he picked up a lot of poop. You have to get your dog when they are young. By:Anna and Brooke I learned about Eric and the longest miles he ran was 300 miles. He has never got in first place during the races. He has only got in second place during the races. iHis favorite dog is Reese. He has 37 dogs. Three of those dogs are puppies. He also has a daughter and she's about 13 years old. He was inspired by his friend in Jamaica. It was in 2014 when this happened. So his friend was a musher and Erik always wanted to be a musher because of his friend. By Gabrielle I learned that the musher raises and breeds dogs, and he taught us many things we need to mush. His daughter was a musher too and she had participated in many races. In one race the musher came in 2nd place. Go, Eric! He raises 37 dogs that he likes. When he went to the dog houses the dogs were really excited. In the end, we asked, “Which dog was your favorite?” And he replied, “It’s really hard to tell.” I also learned that he used several gadgets in the race. He needed straw and water and other gadgets. I learned so much in this Skype. Thank the teachers for making this happen! By Zach I learned that they have lots of meat for the dogs on the trail and and water. They have a puppy yard and they have lots of space and houses for them to live in. Eric said he won second place in a race. He was tired after his race. His favorite musher was Wade Marrs. By Ryan We had a skype with a musher named Eric Kelly! He talked about his sled and dogs and also about how he cooked and set up the sled. It was really really really really really really really really cool! He also had a dog with very famous parents. It was fun to see how he cooked and used the sled. There are actually three types of a sled, one being a jet ski sled, being a sled shaped like a jetski and can work on land and water. There is the metal sled that is a normal sled but is metal and then the wood sled being a pretty old for its type. Those are different classes of sleds. The jetski runs on ice and you can sit on. There is the metal. It is the most durable of them all! Now that’s what I call strong! There is even a sled you can sit on! There are different sleds and dogs! By Mac Today we skyped with a dogsled racer. It was very fun. I learned he was in a 300 mile race. His daughter has ran a 5 mile race. He has 37 dogs. He lives in Alaska. By Ty We skyped with Eric Kelly. Eric is a musher. He has 37 dogs. Most of his dogs are Alaskan Huskies. He said that his favorite thing about his dogs are that they are very strong and smart. His favorite dog is named Wrecking Ball. His daughter is interested in doing the Jr. Iditarod Race. She has done a few races before but they were pretty short. A fun fact that we learned was that anything over 100 miles is overnight and another fun fact that we learned is that one of the races that he did he came in second place. Some of the things that he uses is a special sleeping bag that has holes in the bottom and in the arms kind of like a big coat. The other thing that he uses is a mini oven to boil water. The musher Eric Kelly is Awesome! By Macy and Emmersen Today we Skyped with a musher named Eric Kelly. He has 37 dogs in total. He has one daughter. He was inspired by his friend to be a musher. For example we learned that you use a special $400 Sleeping bag to sleep. Also that he has 37 Dogs!!! The only breed he has are Siberian Huskies. His daughter has done a 5 mile sled race. Also he was inspired by his friend that he used to help for the iditarod. Finally that he has all sorts of sleds. If there is no snow then he uses a 4x4 and the dogs pull it. He has a sitting sled, a wooden sled and a racing sled. In conclusion the skype was really fun! By Ben We had a skype with a musher named Eric Kelly. We looked at his dogs and some of his dogs were raised by Jeff King. Eric Kelly had 37 dogs! Our class thought that was SO much! One of the dogs were named Eric and another dog’s name was Batman. In a race a musher would ride 300 miles. He has a daughter that has been in races. She is not old enough to enter in the Jr. Iditarod. There was a sleeping bag that was 400 dollars but the reason why it was 400 dollars was because it was made by Jeff King. It had arm holes and room for your legs and head so you can get up if your dog needs something! Eric Kelly has a home for each of the dogs. All of the little houses have straw! By Isla and Amoret |
